ABBA

ABBA was a successful Swedish group that was formed in the 1970s. The name Abba comesfrom : Agnetha, Björn, Benny and Anni-Frid, which are the members' initials. Abba is regarded as Sweden's biggest and most successful music export ever. In 1972 Abba's first disc was releasedin which all ABBA members appeared under the name "Bjorn,Benny, Agnetha and Anni-Frid".

Their music could be described as pop with slight hints of folk rock. The group participated in Eurovision Song Contest in 1973 with a track called “Ring Ring”. This song finished third place in the contest, though it did not prevent the group from getting its first major success. And that big success would come the year after, in 1974, when ABBA performed the song “Waterloo” as the Swedish entry. “Waterloo won the Eurovision Song Contest finals in Brighton. Later the songMamma Mia” managed to climb into the first place in Britain’s Top Ten, a fact which strengthened the status of the group.

In 1976, the Abba group was extremely popular in Sweden and all over the world with hits like Money Money, Fernando, Knowing Me Knowing You and Dancing Queen, which was a U.S. number one in 1977.
